In July of 2018 the City of Hamilton sent out press releases advising citizens that there was a significant event that had happened at the Chedoke Creek (July 12, 2018, July 18, 2018). As a result of these press releases several media sources covered the issue including but not limited to CHCH, the Hamilton Spectator and all local radio stations, informing the citizens of this significant event.
What was failed to be disclosed was the volume and duration of the discharge of the storm water runoff and sanitary sewage into the Chedoke Creek especially when it first became known to Council in August 2018.
I would like to formally apologize to the residents of this City that this information was not brought forward publicly in 2018 or at any other subsequent Committee or Council meetings.
We are working with staff to rectify this issue and reports will be brought forward identifying all responses to provincial orders since July of 2018 as well as timelines and inventories of water samples, and environmental assessments.
