Big news for Hamilton residents—especially those in our rural communities who’ve long asked for better by-law response coverage in the evenings and on weekends. Starting April 1, 2025, Licensing and By-law Services will significantly expand their hours to better meet community needs.

This change comes in direct response to growing demand for evening noise enforcement and complaint investigation. The new hours will ensure that Municipal Law Enforcement Officers are available during peak times when issues like noise disturbances are more likely to occur.

Here’s what’s changing:

Day

Current Hours

New Hours (Effective April 1)

Monday

8:00am – 9:00pm

8:00am – 4:00pm

Tuesday

8:00am – 9:00pm

8:00am – 4:00am (next day)

Wednesday

8:00am – 9:00pm

8:00am – 4:00am (next day)

Thursday

8:00am – 9:00pm

8:00am – 4:00am (next day)

Friday

8:00am – 1:00am

8:00am – 4:00am (next day)

Saturday

5:00pm – 1:00am

1:00pm – 4:00am (next day)

Sunday

No Service

4:00pm – 12:00am

What this means for you:

Municipal Law Enforcement Officers will now be on duty during peak hours when noise and other disturbances are more likely. This is a big win for residents who’ve expressed frustration at the lack of late-night enforcement in the past.

📞 To report a by-law concern:

  • Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 4:30pm: Call 905-546-2489

  • After hours & weekends: Also call 905-546-2489 to reach the Customer Contact Centre

  • Noise complaints outside of these new by-law hours: Call Hamilton Police Services (non-emergency) at 905-546-4925.

This is a meaningful step toward a safer, more responsive city for all—whether you're enjoying a quiet night at home or hosting a community event. Councillor Mark Tadeson supports this change as part of our ongoing efforts to ensure rural and urban residents alike receive timely, effective service.
