Free Faraday Bag: Stop Car Thieves in Their Tracks

While supplies last at 400 Rymal Road East, Station 30

We have received a number of emails from residents who are concerned about the rise of auto theft in our community and the province. We have previously featured articles on how to prevent auto theft:

Now, we are are thrilled to announce that the HPS are offering a free Faraday bag to help prevent auto theft caused by a weakness in key fob technology used on some models.

The faraday bag is a small pouch designed to store vehicle key fobs and block the electronic signals they emit. Auto thieves have devices and technology to detect and use the signals to start a vehicle parked in a driveway, without actually using the key fob. It is strongly recommended that in addition to placing the key fobs inside the faraday bag, vehicle owners store the bags as far away as possible from main level exterior doors and windows of the home.

The faraday bags can be picked up at the front reception area of Station 30, located at 400 Rymal Rd East in Hamilton.  Supplies are limited.

See the YouTube videos below which provide information about the bags and how thieves utilize electronic signals to steal vehicles.

We have identified the top ten makes and models of vehicles that are commonly stolen in Division Three. The top two vehicles are the most often stolen using the RFI signal method that the faraday bags are designed to prevent.
