Second Significant Weather Event Declared

Updated: Mar 1

Starting today (February 15th) at noon, the City of Hamilton has declared a Significant Weather Event in response to the upcoming snowstorm that’s set to deliver as much as 40 cm of snow along with ice pellets, beginning Saturday and lasting through Monday.

During this declaration, residents are reminded that not all City facilities will close or programs be cancelled. However, the declaration provides flexibility for crews to address snowfall impacts more efficiently. For regular updates, residents are encouraged to visit hamilton.ca/WeatherImpacts and check the City’s official social media channels.

Keeping Roads and Sidewalks Safe

City crews have already begun pre-treating major roadways and will prioritize parkways, escarpments, and primary routes as the snow intensifies. Traffic delays are expected, and residents should anticipate slower plow operations during peak snowfall periods. Some areas may be heavily impacted, with snow removal efforts set to follow after the initial clearing.

As outlined by the Snow and Ice By-law, property owners have 24 hours after the end of a declared Significant Weather Event to clear sidewalks and overhanging roof snow. This gives residents time to handle their responsibilities once the weather stabilizes.

A Request for Cooperation - Remove Parked Cars from Streets

To aid plow operations and improve safety, residents are urged to keep vehicles off the street during the storm and immediately afterward. Keeping roads clear helps maintain essential access for plows and emergency vehicles. Our office has fielded many calls about the lack of plowing on some residential streets, mostly preventable, due to cars parked on the side streets, blocking the snow plows.

Where to Find More Information

Thank You for Your Patience
