Useful information about waste collection in 2018

HAMILTON, ON – The City of Hamilton is sharing some useful information for residents about waste collection for the 2018 calendar year. Residents can expect the annual residential Recycling & Garbage Guide and new green trash tags to arrive in their mailbox within the coming days.

CityApp

Residents can now download a new City of Hamilton app for free which will lead users to Garbage & Recycling information. The mobile and/or online app helps residents remember when their collection day is and search for specific items to see what belongs in the green bin, blue box or garbage. The CityApp will also inform users about community events and how bad weather may impact their waste collection too.

Residents can find the app by searching CityApp in the App Store or on Google Play. They can customize it by entering their address and selecting what types of reminders they want to receive and how often. The service is also available on the City of Hamilton’s website .

Residential Recycling & Garbage Guide

Each year the City distributes a residential Recycling and Garbage guide to all single-family homes to remind residents about the recycling and waste collection programs in the city. It comes with a holiday collection schedule, a quick reference guide for what goes in the green bin, paper recycling and container recycling boxes, information about the Community Recycling Centres, and useful tips on managing waste. The guide will be arriving via Canada Post.

Trash tags

Residents in single-family homes can put out one bag of garbage per week, weighing no more than 23 kilograms (50 pounds). Any resident who needs to put out extra garbage can attach a trash tag to each additional bag. Every house hold receives 12 trash tags in the mail each year. The new green trash tags are effective as of April 1, 2018 and should be delivered to all single-family homes within the coming days.
